Michael A. Hombach Scholarship Fund

Founded by Michael Hombach’s family to provide scholarships to students studying education or behavioral health.

Michael worked for Frederick County Public Schools for 24 years in various positions including as a therapist, pupil personnel worker and assistant principal. He was also a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical, and counseled individual clients for more than two decades. In honor of his most recent service as vice principal at Urbana High School and Walkersville High School, this scholarship will support graduating seniors from those schools who plan to study education or behavioral health at a college or university within the state of Maryland.

Michael C. Snyder Memorial Fund

Founded by parents Mary and David Snyder scholarships, preferably to students exhibiting financial need; and to grants to nonprofits working in the visual arts, children’s services and environmental conservation.

Michael Snyder’s happiest moments were when he could interact with children and teach them art. He dedicated his time to people in need. A work-related accident claimed his life at young age. He was born on August 14, 1975 in Bethesda, Maryland. A graduate of Brunswick High School, he continued his education at Frederick Community College and Shepherd University. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. A talented and creative artist and writer, his career goal was to become an art teacher. He earned the Eagle Scout award for his strong sense of right and wrong at the age of 15. He joined Big Brothers Big Sisters to become a mentor to at-risk children. Through mentoring, helping children and adults with disabilities, opposing animal cruelty and fighting for social change, Michael proved to be a giving and caring person. To honor their only son’s memory, parents Mary and David Snyder established a donor-advised fund. The Michael C. Snyder Memorial Fund awards scholarships to children with financial needs; and grants to nonprofit organizations in the areas of the visual arts, children’s services and environmental conservation, all of which were passions close to Michael’s heart.

Michael David Hendrix Memorial Scholarship Fund

Founded by wife Linda Agar-Hendrix for Frederick County high school graduates, preferably those studying information technology, the sciences, music, or the arts.

Michael David Hendrix was an accomplished engineer with Bechtel Power when he passed away from injuries sustained in an airplane accident. Mr. Hendrix’s wife, Linda, wanted to honor her husband’s memory by establishing The Michael David Hendrix Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Fund provides scholarships to Frederick County high school graduating seniors, with first preference given to those studying in scientific fields with a focus on information technology and second preference given to those studying engineering, with special consideration given to performing arts, visual arts and music majors.
