Jake Baker 27 Fund

Smiling man in green #27 football jersey

Founded by James and Karen Baker in memory of their son to support programs that raise awareness about the importance of mental health and suicide prevention.

Jake grew up in Thurmont and graduated from Catoctin High School. He was voted most athletic in his class – he had broken several school records in the weight room, he was an outstanding wrestler, and he was an all-star football player whose team won the state championship his senior year.  He was also voted most artistic as he loved to draw and create art.

Jake attended Clarion University, Towson University, and Slippery Rock University where he majored in marketing. At Slippery Rock, he played defensive end on the football team, helping them secure the 2023 PSAC West title and advance to the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals. Outside of sports, Jake had a passion for art, kayaking, fishing, working on his truck, and building Lego kits.

Jake died by suicide May of 2024. Learn more about Jake on the family’s website JakeBaker27.org.
