Founded by Carol A. Snapp to provide scholarships to students who are enrolled in an accredited Midwifery or Nurse Midwifery program.
Dr. Carol Snapp was a certified nurse-midwife in Frederick. She was the first nurse-midwife privileged at Frederick Memorial Hospital (now Frederick Health) in 1984. She helped start Frederick Midwifery Center, a free-standing birth center, to provide additional options to childbearing families. In 1999, Dr. Snapp helped develop a nurse-midwifery education program at University of Maryland, Baltimore, eventually becoming the program director. In 2010 she established the nursing program at Hood College and served as the first Department Chair.
This scholarship supports her commitment to midwifery education and women’s health, particularly in Frederick, Maryland.
