Founded by Randall Simpson as a donor advised fund.

Founded by Randall Simpson and inspired by his daughter, Saige, The Simpson Family Fund supports nonprofit organizations in Frederick County. Mr. Simpson instilled a commitment to serving others in his daughter at a very young age and the need to give back to community and to making the world a better place. Together, the father-daughter team hope to make a lasting impact for years to come.

Founded by John and Gail Slezak for students pursuing music education with a focus on instrumental performance.

Both John and Gail enjoyed successful careers spanning decades in music through singing, performing, directing, and teaching. John also founded the local Spires Brass Band in 1993, which was formed to enrich the cultural life of the Frederick community.

Dawn Renee Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund

Founded by grandparents Charles and Jane Smith for graduates of Frederick County Public Schools, with preference given to Brunswick High School graduates pursuing a degree in marketing or a related field.

Dawn Renee Smith graduated from the Frederick County Career and Technology Center’s marketing program. She served as president of the Frederick County Delta Epsilon Chi Association (DECA), a national organization for marketing students, and received statewide recognition for her role in increasing the organization’s local membership. Active often in community service projects, Ms. Smith’s kindness and goodwill toward others defined her. When injuries sustained in a car accident shortly after her high school graduation claimed her life, her grandparents—Charles and Jane Smith—started awarding scholarships in her name as a way to remember her. In December 2004, Mr. and Mrs. Smith turned to the Community Foundation to establish The Dawn Renee Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund to help other students who exhibit qualities and interests similar to those of their granddaughter.

Sgt. David J. Smith Veterans Relief Fund

Founded by family members to support temporary assistance to veterans in Frederick County.

This fund was established in memory of Sgt. David James Smith 11 years after his death in Afghanistan and 10 years after establishing the Sgt. David J. Smith Memorial Golf Tournament. In the spirit of who David was, the fund supports emergency relief assistance for Frederick County veterans. Frederick is the city David loved, along with his service to the Marine Corps. It is fitting to give back to the men and women of this county who willingly gave of themselves for us.

Sgt. David J. Smith Memorial Fund

Founded by family members for Frederick High School alumni and grants to nonprofits.

After graduating from Frederick High School, Sgt. Smith attended Salisbury University. In 2003, he joined the United States Marine Corps, and later attended East Carolina University. His first tour of duty was in Iraq in 2006-2007, with the 4thLAR 3rd BN, Bravo Company of Frederick, Maryland. He was deployed to Afghanistan in October, 2009 and was seriously injured by a suicide bomber in the Helmand Provence, and died in Germany of his wounds January 26, 2010. David was an organ donor and ultimately saved four others with his gift of life. The fund was established to support students like Sgt. Smith, who demonstrate leadership qualities, actively serve in their community, participate in a faith-based organization, and have a strong sense of patriotism. The fund also provides grants to nonprofit organizations.
