Ann Burnside Love and Thomas A. Love, MD, Family Scholarship Fund

Founded by Mrs. Love in honor and memory of her husband, Thomas A. Love, and the family they created to provide scholarships for students pursuing a career in journalism, creative writing, communications, marketing or business writing degrees. The fund will also provide scholarships to students accepted or enrolled at University of Maryland’s medical or dental schools.

To honor her late husband and the family they created, Ann Burnside Love established The Ann Burnside Love and Thomas A. Love, M.D. Family Scholarship Fund. The fund also honors the careers of Dr. and Mrs. Love. As a family physician in Thurmont during the late 1950’s through the 1960’s, Dr. Love was determined to follow in the footsteps of his physician father and grandfather, but he wanted a small-town hands-on practice. He established close relationships with his patients, and was immensely loved and respected for the time, attention, and caring that he gave to each person. Tragically, in 1968 he lost his life in an automobile accident on his way to a house call. “I’m so grateful that I’m finally able to establish this scholarship fund,” said Mrs. Love. “The idea for the fund has been with me since my husband died. For many years, I’ve wanted to honor him and the wonderful physician he was by helping others achieve their medical degrees. Also, my passion for writing is my motivation to help budding writers become successful. So, I’ve created this fund to honor the wonderful family that Tom and I created. I am so proud of our four children and their families, and I know Tom would be, too.”

Anthony M. Natelli Memorial Scholarship Fund

Founded by Natelli Communities for Urbana High School graduates exhibiting dedication to volunteerism.

Anthony “Tony” Natelli was synonymous with Gaithersburg-based Natelli Communities, the real estate development firm he formed with his son Thomas. Natelli Communities positively transformed the landscape of Frederick County by developing the communities of Dearbought in Frederick, Glenbrook in Middletown and the Villages of Urbana in Urbana, all known for their community-oriented development philosophy, thoughtful planning and timeless design. A New Jersey native, Mr. Natelli began his career in the accounting field at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. (now KPMG), where he served as managing partner of the company’s offices in Italy and later in Washington, DC. He left the accounting field for a successful second career in real estate in 1977, becoming a land developer in both Frederick and Montgomery counties. Mr. Natelli was the force behind the development of Avenel in Potomac, turning the once forlorn site of a planned sewage treatment facility into a prestigious community of over 900 homes and a championship golf course that has hosted a PGA Tour event for over a decade. In 1996, Mr. Natelli earned the Urban Land Institute Award of Excellence for the finest planned community in the nation for his visionary work on Avenel. His civic consciousness, community service and involvement in charitable endeavors defined his hands-on business style as did his commitment to his family. He was devoted to his wife Trudy of 47 years, his five children Nancy, Tony, Thomas, Mary, and Michael, fifteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and his sons and daughters-in-law Steve, Christine, Karen, Tim, and Jessica. After Mr. Natelli passed away at the age of 67 of a cerebral hemorrhage in March 2004, his son Thomas turned to the Community Foundation and made a founding gift to establish The Anthony M. Natelli Memorial Scholarship Fund to continue reaching out to those in Frederick County’s premier planned community built by Natelli Communities. The Fund awards annual scholarships to Urbana High School graduates. Preference is given to those graduates exhibiting exemplary community service above minimum graduation requirements and demonstrating a commitment to volunteerism.

Arthur O. and Julane P. Anderson Scholarship Fund

Founded by Dr. and Mrs. Anderson for Frederick County residents who are nontraditional students.

The Andersons established the scholarship fund because of their desire to help non-traditional students obtain post-secondary education. Through their respective places of employment, they met people who postponed their studies for a variety of reasons: starting a family, military service, career change, as well as other circumstances beyond their control. Knowing that it is sometimes difficult to start or return to school, the Andersons wanted to provide positive reinforcement and assistance for those pursuing education in the health sciences. It is their hope that those helped through the scholarships will gain the knowledge to be successful and in turn, help others.

Austin Lewis Filby Memorial Fund

Founded through Mr. Filby’s estate, Frederick County Board of County Commissioners, and Frederick County Department of Aging to support the Department’s bingo and birthday celebrations for those it serves.

Austin Filby was a friendly man who enjoyed playing card games, such as solitaire, rummy and hearts. He also took great pleasure in playing bingo. The Austin Lewis Filby Memorial Fund was created through Mr. Filby’s estate, with the support of the Board of County Commissioners for Frederick County and the Frederick County Department of Aging, to support bingo and birthday celebrations conducted by the Frederick County Department of Aging for the people it serves.
