William Hurwitz was a long time Frederick County resident and community leader. He founded Colonial Jewelers in downtown Frederick in 1948. In 1978, his son Jeff Hurwitz and wife Patty Hurwitz, joined the business, working closely with Mr. Hurwitz until his retirement. He sadly died of lung cancer in 1999. He was a mentor to the Hurwitzs’ and taught the importance of giving to the community and caring for others. Founded in his honor, The William Hurwitz Memorial Fund is a scholarship fund that provides support to graduating Frederick County seniors going on to study business.
