FREDERICK, MD – August 5, 2020: To support the community’s greatest needs, The Gordon and Teresa Cooley Unrestricted Fund has been established with The Community Foundation of Frederick County and becomes one of its more than 720 component funds.
Founded by Gordon M. and Teresa Warfield Cooley, the fund’s purpose is to support Frederick County nonprofit organizations at the discretion of the Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
Mr. and Mrs. Cooley are deeply involved in the Frederick County community and care about its future success. By establishing their fund with the Community Foundation, they are helping to ensure that local nonprofit organizations will receive support well into the future. The fund will support the Community Foundation’s strategic grantmaking as part of its Forever Frederick County campaign. The campaign is creating funds to provide strategic grants to address Frederick County’s most pressing needs for generations to come.

Founded by a grant from The Robert G. Hooper Family Fund, a component donor-advised fund of the Community Foundation, the fund’s purpose is to support Frederick County nonprofit organizations at the discretion of the Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
Mr. Hooper has deep ties to the community and established the fund to support Frederick County nonprofits well into the future. The new fund he established, The Robert G. Hooper Unrestricted Fund, will help support the Community Foundation’s strategic grantmaking to address Frederick County’s most pressing needs.
FREDERICK, MD – November 11, 2020: During its recent FY2021 impact grantmaking cycle, The Community Foundation of Frederick County provided $374,192.10 to 40 area nonprofits dedicated to improving lives and enhancing Frederick County. This grant cycle is part of a larger grantmaking effort by the Community Foundation which distributes more than $5 million into the community annually.
The grants are designed to assist local nonprofits with projects that have meaningful and direct impact on the residents of Frederick County. As a leading source of grant funding in Frederick County, the Community Foundation supports the arts, historic preservation, agriculture, health and human services, education, cultural understanding, animal well-being, scholarships, elder care, youth programs, civic causes, and more.
Impact grant funding was provided from the following funds:
The AG-C.I.T.E. Fund:
$1,500.14 to Hope Valley Farm for a goat enclosure and chicken run to educate youth about goat and chicken care.
The Animal Care Field of Interest Fund:
$1,226.41 to Cuddles Cat Rescue for general operating expenses.
The Bar Association of Frederick County Justice for All Fund:
$5,000.00 to Asian American Center of Frederick for citizenship integration services.
$500.00 to Friends of the Child Advocacy Center of Frederick County for storage unit funding.
$5,000.00 to Mental Health Association of Frederick County for CASA of Frederick County program.

FREDERICK, MD – February 14, 2020: To support students pursuing their post-secondary educational goals, The Harold Glen and Audrey G. Benson Trumpower Foundation Scholarship Fund has been established with The Community Foundation of Frederick County. It becomes one of more than its 720 component funds.
Founded by the Trumpower Foundation, the fund’s purpose is to provide scholarships to Carroll County, Maryland residents. The scholarships will support students who exceed the maximum income threshold for government financial aid programs but who still have financial need or lack resources to pay for their education. Scholarships will not replace financial aid packages provided by the government or private sources but will add to or compliment other financial aid sources.
The scholarships are intended to include two-and four-year colleges and trade and technical schools, as well as non-credit certificate programs. These programs include but aren’t limited to assisted living manager, cybersecurity, certified clinical medical assistant, dental assistant, and emergency medical technician, among other areas of study. Preference will be given to students who previously received the scholarship after the first year for up to an additional three years of financial support for a maximum total support of four years, pending the student maintains a 2.0 grade point average or higher and continues to meet the scholarship requirements. The Trumpower Foundation’s primary mission is to provide scholarships and promote other educational and charitable purposes for residents of Carroll County. Mr. and Mrs. Trumpower cared deeply about education, and Mrs. Trumpower lived in Carroll County for most of her life. The scholarship was created to provide ample opportunities to Carroll County students to follow their educational and career aspirations.

FREDERICK, MD – January 6, 2021: To support emergency medical services and historic preservation, The Gene and Carolyn King Fund for Mount Airy Emergency Medical Services and The Gene and Carolyn King Pine Grove Chapel Endowment Fund have been established with The Community Foundation of Frederick County. These funds become two of the more than 740 component funds of the Community Foundation.
Founded by Mrs. King through her estate provisions, The Gene and Carolyn King Fund for Mount Airy Emergency Medical Services was created to support Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Department for training, equipment, and general operating costs for providing emergency medical services, but not for general fire protection.
The Gene and Carolyn King Pine Grove Chapel Endowment Fund, also founded by Mrs. King through her estate provisions, was established to support Pine Grove Cemetery in Mount Airy for restoration, maintenance, and upkeep of the historic chapel.
Mr. and Mrs. King cared deeply about these causes and the two funds in their name will provide important support services for generations to come.
FREDERICK, MD – March 1, 2021: To support Frederick’s frontline workers and downtown restaurants during the pandemic, The Feeding Frederick’s Frontline Fund has been established with The Community Foundation of Frederick County and becomes one of its more than 740 component funds.
Founded by Downtown Frederick Partnership, the fund’s purpose is to supply free meals for Frederick’s frontline workers while also supporting Downtown Frederick’s restaurant community. Grants from the fund will purchase meals from local restaurants for health care workers, emergency workers, shelter providers, and other government or nonprofit workers who are working with COVID patients or persons at high risk of COVID.
Downtown Frederick Partnership worked with the Community Foundation to establish the fund to provide vital support to the community as the pandemic continues to have lasting health and economic impacts in Frederick County. Washington Gas also provided support to help launch the initiative.
“The Partnership is excited to work with the Community Foundation to show our restaurants and frontline workers how much their hard work over the last year is appreciated. We are looking forward to giving the community another way to pay it forward and support each other as this pandemic continues,” said Kara Norman, Executive Director for Downtown Frederick Partnership.
