FREDERICK, MD –July 30, 2025: The African American Resources Cultural and Heritage Society, Inc. (AARCH) created The AARCH Society-African American Heritage Center Fund to support the development and creation of an African American Heritage Center at 125 East All Saints Street in downtown Frederick. This becomes one of more than 818 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
The African American Heritage Center will serve as a vital cultural institution, offering exhibits, educational programs, and resources that illuminate the contributions and experiences of African Americans in the region. The project will ensure that this history and relevant artifacts are preserved and maintained for future generations.
“The entire Frederick community, as well as visitors to our city, will have the opportunity to learn about the history, culture, heritage, and contributions of the African American community,” said AARCH Society Board President, Dr. Olivia White. “This fund represents a powerful opportunity to preserve, celebrate, and share the rich history of the African American community in Frederick County.”
Earlier this year work officially began on the 3,200-square-foot facility which will feature permanent and traveling exhibits, a multi-purpose theater and meeting space, state-of-the-art research and archival facilities, interactive programs for young learners, “Living Treasures” oral histories and recognition of Frederick’s prominent Black families and their lasting impact on the region. Construction on the Center is expected to be complete by fall.
