Community Foundation Seeks Nominations for the 2023 Wertheimer Fellow for Excellence in Volunteerism and Youth in Action Awards

elderly womanFREDERICK, MD – April 18, 2023: The Community Foundation of Frederick County celebrates individuals who make a difference in our community by donating their time, effort and expertise to support the work of local nonprofits and organizations. Through the month of May, the Community Foundation will accept nominations for the 2023 Wertheimer Fellow for Excellence in Volunteerism and Youth in Action Awards.

Information about the awards, past awardees and the online nomination form can be found at www.FrederickCountyGives.org/WertheimerAwards. Nominations will be accepted from May 1 – May 31, 2023. Individuals only need to be nominated once for consideration, and the nomination must be completed online.

The Wertheimer Fellows for Excellence in Volunteerism Award is now in its 21st year and honors the legacy of the late Janis Miller Wertheimer, a well-known Frederick businesswoman and prolific volunteer. The awards program is made possible through The Janis Miller Wertheimer Endowment Fund. Eligible nominations must be for individuals 18 or older and cannot include couples, groups, clubs, or organizations.

The Wertheimer Youth in Action Award, now in its 12th year, recognizes youth under the age of 18 who are positively impacting the community by volunteering their talents and energies in extraordinary ways.

The honorees will be recognized at the Community Foundation’s Annual Report to the Community on Nov.16. Wertheimer Fellows are awarded $25,000 to establish or add to a permanent fund with the Community Foundation for the nonprofit or charitable endeavor of their choice. The Wertheimer Youth in Action honoree will receive a $2,000 grant to support a Frederick County nonprofit organization of their choice.
