Business Roundtable Fund Supports Youth Apprenticeship Program

FREDERICK, MD – December 21, 2018: A grant from The Frederick County Business Roundtable for Education Fund, one of more than 700 funds managed by The Community Foundation of Frederick County, is providing partial funding to the Youth Apprenticeship Maryland program in Frederick County.
FREDERICK, MD – December 21, 2018: A grant from The Frederick County Business Roundtable for Education Fund, one of more than 700 funds managed by The Community Foundation of Frederick County, is providing partial funding to the Youth Apprenticeship Maryland program in Frederick County. The grant was supported with a $15,000 gift to the fund from FirstEnergy Foundation.

Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) was selected as one of two county school systems in Maryland to pilot the Youth Apprenticeship Maryland “Earn and Learn” program. Students work, in the summer following their junior year and during their senior year of high school, with a local employer to learn skills in a state-approved industry, and earn industry credentials and high school credit.

Robert Taylor, a student at Urbana High School, and Michael Fout, a student at Brunswick High School, are apprenticing with Ben Lewis Plumbing, Clarksburg, Maryland, learning residential and commercial plumbing. Owen Sullivan, a student at Tuscarora High School, is apprenticing with Dynamic Automotive, learning auto repair and maintenance skills.
